Dr Peter Millichap
POST-DOC SCIENTIST and IT MANAGER

Peter Millichap graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2001 with a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology. He then worked as a laboratory technician producing clinical and diagnostic products for Polymer Laboratories Ltd (now part of Agilent Technologies) to ISO 9001 standards.

Leaving Polymer Laboratories Ltd in 2004, Peter commenced his PhD studying the interactions between pathogen and host using the model insect Manduca sexta. His research involved using RNA interference and Fluorescence-assisted cell sorting (FACS) and various molecular techniques to investigate immune responses against the insect pathogen Photorhabdus luminescens. These studies were able to show that a Peptidoglycan recognition protein was crucial to the production of anti-microbial peptides. He was also able to show that the uptake of iron from the environment was critical to the pathogenicity of P. luminescens by using iron uptake deficient mutants.

Since joining Micropathology Ltd in 2010, Peter has become involved in the molecular diagnostic work of the company.
