Sanger Sequencing

Micropathology Ltd offers affordable and rapid-turnaround Sanger sequencing using ABI 3500xl genetic analysers. We routinely employ Sanger sequencing for the phylogenetic typing of bacterial/fungal species, viral genotyping and drug resistance analysis of both bacterial and viral pathogens.

Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)

Micropathology Ltd utilises the Illumina MiSeq platform for short read massively parallel sequencing projects, as well as the MinION platform (Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT)) for long read sequencing projects. Both technologies are currently being used for research projects in the areas of microbial/viral genomics, metagenomics, and mitochondrial phylogenomics. We welcome any prospective research requests for short and long read sequencing.

As well as using these sequencing platforms for customised research projects, we are currently developing diagnostics assays for pathogen detection and drug resistance screening using the MiSeq/ONT platforms with intention of applying the technology to phylogenetic typing and HIV, CMV, HSV and HBV drug resistance analysis.

More information is available in our sequencing user information sheet and on the Illumina website.
