PATERNITY TESTING

Genetic paternity testing is undertaken to confirm or exclude an adult male as the true biological father of a child. Exclusion is essentially absolute, whilst confirmation typically provides >99.999% certainty.

Twin zygosity testing involves comparing genetic profiles obtained from same sex twins. Dizygosity confirmation is absolute (demonstrating that the twins are non-identical). Monozygosity confirmation (demonstrating that the twin are identical) typically provides >99.999% certainty.

The technique we employ for these assays utilises the latest technology, and is based on assessing the inheritance of 15 highly polymorphic (variable), independently segregating loci from across the human genome. See table below:

Paternity testing costs £200 for up to 3 specimens (either whole blood or cheek swabs can be accepted). Thus 'motherless' testing (child & putative father) incurs the same charge as 'mother, child & putative father testing'. Additional specimens (e.g. more than one child) will be charged at £75 each. Please contact us for for further information on how to proceed with this test.

The cost of Twin zygosity testing is £150. Please contact us for for further information on how to proceed with this test.

Please note the following: In order to comply with the UK Department of Health code of practice (March 2001), 'motherless' testing will only be undertaken with the mothers written consent. It should also be noted that results are provided for information purposes only, should they be required for use in legal proceedings, the collection of samples must be supervised to satisfy legal criteria. In such cases, individuals should approach their solicitor or a family law specialist first. For help please visit The Solicitors Family Law Association.
